Image of the week

So my forgotten church piece was chosen as the image of the week on the 3D artist website!!

http://www.3dartistonline.com/images/featured

So excited about this and its going to be published in the January print issue of the magazine.  I cant wait to see it in print.  So next month go take a look at the 3D artist magazine and let me know what you think about my image.  :D
So I recently built a new computer which is amazing and one of the best purchases I have ever made.  My old computer lasted me for 7 years which is probably 3 years longer than I should have kept it, but I didn't realize how much it was holding me back.  My previous mosque render which you can see below took me over 40 hours just to compute the render and the quality settings were really low compared to the new settings.  I had to break the old file into 3 parts just to get it to render, and each part took more then 12 hours to compute.  Now I can keep the entire file together, crank up the quality settings and it renders in less than 2 hours.  This is life changing for me and my work.

I am now able to do proper render tests, model with higher poly counts and create better results.  I am so excited to see the work I create in the near future.

For now here is a better render of my mosque concept.  It is inspired by Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.  Thanks for taking a look and let me know what you think!!

Mosque

After many hours of modeling, rendering, painting, computer crashes, more computer crashes, maya making me want to cry and then figuring it all out I am finally finished.  I had to render this one out in many different passes and piece them together because my dying computer couldn't handle the file size.  I am very proud of this piece and grateful for all the lessons I have learned while creating it.  I am going to make a little tutorial showing how this piece was created and will post it here soon.  For now I hope you enjoy my creation.  Modeled in Rhino and Maya, rendered in Mental Ray and post production in Photoshop.  Thanks for taking a look and comments are always welcome.

2nd place in a Gonomon monthly contest

The Gnomon Workshop throws these really cool contests every month.  They have two categories 2D image and 3D image and every month they give away 4 prizes per category.  The prizes are amazing, first place gets 25 gnomon dvd's, second place gets 15 dvd's and so on...  I personally really enjoy the gnomon dvd's and learn so much from their amazing instructors.  I was lucky enough to have one of my entries for the 2D image June contest chosen for second place.  I won 15 dvd's and am very excited to receive my winnings in the mail.  Also the work that is submitted to these contests are pretty amazing and always fun to see what other people come up with for the monthly theme.

If you haven't already been to the Gnomon forums you should check them out and create a profile.  There is a lot of good stuff going on over there and who knows maybe you will be inspired by some of the artwork happening over there.  http://forums.thegnomonworkshop.com/showthread.php?t=5660

Check out issue 10 of ceiga magazine.  The front view of my warrior cricket is on page 18.

Its pretty cool to have my work along side so many amazing artists.  I kind of feel like they made a mistake in choosing a piece of mine.  I am super pumped to be getting my work out there though.  Thanks for all the support from everyone that cares :)
